Spring Carrots for Decorating

Hello there! I hope you are doing well.  We are finally getting back to normal now.

We have had AWFUL weather here in Texas.  You may have even seen it on your national news.  We had bad ice storms in our metroplex area which caused a 100 plus vehicle accident, that caused 6 deaths. It didn't stop there, we then had lots of snow with sub zero temperatures and power outages all over our state.  You may think what's the big deal?  It's Texas, we don't have this type of weather and we are not set up for it. Plain and simple, we can't handle it.

So, we had rolling power outages here in our town, just like many others in Texas.  My hubs and I got really good at managing the outages. We started writing down the time when it went off and then again when it came back on. We figured out the schedule.   When we needed to do something that involved electricity, we'd watch the time so we could make the most of our quick 30 minutes it was on.  Preparing ahead is key!  My honey bun and I made the best of the bad bad weather, no power, stuck in the house thing!

With teamwork we could cook a whole meal in less than 30 minutes. Thank you Instant Pot for coming through quickly!  Mostly we ate by candle light at night, but that’s fun right?

Out of sheer boredom, last Tuesday, I made these easy DIY jute twine carrots that I could use in my Spring decorating this year. I timed it just right to use my hot glue gun and have light to record my video for my "how-to" Reels on Instagram! Check it out here!

Let me show you how I made these cute carrots that didn't cost me anything because I already had everything on hand.

You will need the following items:

Cardboard, Jute Twine, Scotch tape, Hot Glue Gun and Glue, Scissors and some type of faux Greenery to use for the tops.

First of all, I made my template using cardboard and then traced a total of 5 carrots, that's how many I wanted to make.
Cut them all out.  They don't need to be perfect, they're carrots after all! Haha!
At the pointed end, place the end of your twine to the tip of the cardboard and tape in place.
Now start wrapping the twine and holding it secure from the tip up.

Keep wrapping the twine all the way to the top, the wide end.
I added a line of hot glue on both sides to secure the twine in place.
Lastly, I added a line of glue on the tip of the cardboard and covered it with a small piece of twine, just to finish it off.

I used some faux greenery I had on hand for the top.  I just added a line of glue to the stem of the greenery and glued it to one side.

I used my scissors to hold the stem in place while the glue cooled.

I think they turned out so cute!

I styled them in a vintage tea canister along with some egg stems.  Plopped it all in a greenery candle ring and added a small nest.  Tah Dah, an instant Spring Centerpiece!

If you loved this idea and want to save it for later, be sure to pin it to your favorite Pinterest board.  I have a Pinterest board set up just for all things related to Spring and Easter and its called Here Comes Peter CottonTail and I'm pinning something new every day. Won't you join me?

GREAT NEWS!  I now have an Amazon Storefront!  If you ever want to purchase anything I'm showing you here, you can pop over to my shop and see what I've picked out for you! Click right here to visit.

It doesn't have to be done all at once.  It is a slow process in the works! C-ya next time!

  1. We just had the same round of that weather system here in Mississippi. Only lacked that horrible wreck. That was sad. We have a Generac so when we lost the Electric Companies power we still had electricity. The Generac is a whole house generator that connects to our meter bases and kicks on in the event of an outage. Ours runs on propane since we are in the country. We have a separate tank for heating and cooling, we we were fine in that department. We lost water too. But, we were prepared and had winterized our barn pretty good. So our 6 horses were okay. Not happy with being up, but they had no choice. Take care. I like the carrots. A cute idea.

  5. Your carrots are so cute. Here in Maine, we live with ice and frequent power outages. I keep a large waste basket of "toilet flushing water" in my bathtub most of the winter and gallons of water for drinking. With a gas range top, I can always melt snow to wash with! During the Ice Storm of '98, I was without power for 11 days. That was with the boyfriend with his 3 kids, large dog and nasty cat in with my 2 kids, dog and cat! We hauled some water from a neighbor who had a generator! I missed the light in the fridge and my electric glue gun the most! I hope you all will be more prepared in the future; climate change is real!
