Dreaming in Red, White, and Blue: Patriotic Bedroom Decor

Hey there, How yall doin? Are you ready for the fourth of July celebrations?  I am!

Your bedroom is your sanctuary—a place of relaxation, comfort, personal expression and my favorite room in my house. What better way to infuse it with a sense of pride and love for your country than by incorporating patriotic decor? A patriotic-themed bedroom can create a serene and inspiring space where you wake up every morning feeling connected to your nation's heritage. In this blog post, I'm going to explore how to transform your bedroom into a patriotic haven, with ideas that range from subtle touches to bold statements, ensuring your space reflects your love for your country.

Colors that Sing Patriotism - The good ole red, white and blue

When it comes to a patriotic bedroom, color is key. Incorporate the classic hues of red, white, and blue throughout your space to create a cohesive and patriotic atmosphere. Introduce pops of red and blue through bedding, curtains, pillows, and rugs. By balancing these colors harmoniously, you can achieve a visually striking and patriotic ambiance.

Symbolic Bedding and Linens - This quilt though

Make a patriotic statement with your bedding and linens. Look for duvet covers, quilts, comforters, or bedspreads adorned in the colors of our nation. These symbols not only showcase your love for your country but also add a touch of visual interest to your bedroom. Alternatively, choose solid-colored bedding in red, white, or blue and layer them to create a captivating look. Incorporate patriotic-themed accent pillows and throws to complete the ensemble.

Wall Art and Murals - Hey there Uncle Sam

Transform your bedroom walls into a canvas of patriotism by incorporating wall art and murals that celebrate your nation's heritage. Hang framed vintage posters, prints, or paintings that depict iconic landmarks, historical figures, or patriotic quotes. You can also create a stunning focal point by installing a large-scale mural showcasing your country's flag or emblem. These visual elements will immerse you in a sense of national pride and make a bold statement in your bedroom.

Personalized Touches - Toilet Paper Rockets and Red Roses

Add a personal touch to your patriotic bedroom by displaying items that hold sentimental value and reflect your connection to your country. Showcase family photographs featuring loved ones who have served in the armed forces or images capturing moments of national significance. Consider framing letters, postcards, or documents that hold historical importance. These personal mementos will not only add character to your space but also remind you of the sacrifices and achievements of those who came before us.

Transforming your bedroom into a patriotic haven is a beautiful way to celebrate your love for your country and create a space that is uniquely yours. From colors that sing patriotism to symbolic bedding, personalized touches, thematic accessories, and thoughtful window treatments, there are endless possibilities to infuse your bedroom with a sense of national pride. So, let your bedroom become a sanctuary where you can dream in red, white, and blue—a space that reflects your love for your country and serves as a constant reminder of the values and aspirations that unite us all.

Timeless Treasures: Incorporating Vintage Items in Your Patriotic Decor

Hey there, how are you?  Me? Well, just in case you are wondering, I'm melting here in Texas.....no really, its hot yall!

When it comes to patriotic decor, there's a certain charm and authenticity that vintage items bring to the table. Vintage pieces have a unique ability to evoke nostalgia, tell stories of the past, and permeate your space with a sense of timelessness. By integrating vintage items into your patriotic decor, you not only pay homage to the history and heritage of your country but also infuse your surroundings with character and a touch of vintage allure. In this blog post, I will explore the art of using vintage items to enhance your patriotic decor and create a truly captivating and meaningful space.

The Power of Antique Flags - I just adore tiny silk antique flags!

Antique flags are perhaps the most iconic vintage items to incorporate into your patriotic decor. These historic artifacts not only evoke a sense of pride but also provide a tangible connection to the past. Seek out antique flags that feature your country's old designs or versions that have unique historical significance. Display them in centerpieces like this to admire their delicate nature while showcasing their beauty. These flags can become captivating focal points, proudly narrating the story of your nation's journey.  Old Glory, I love you!

Vintage Posters and Artwork - The Moon Walk Life Magazine, one of my favorite treasures

Vintage posters and artwork are fantastic additions to your patriotic decor, infusing your space with color, vibrancy, and a touch of nostalgia. Look for vintage posters depicting iconic events, historical figures, or patriotic themes. These prints can be framed and showcased on your walls, creating captivating visual displays. Vintage magazines, especially those featuring your country's great moments from a bygone era, can also be framed and used as unique pieces of artwork that celebrate your nation's history.

Curating Vintage Collectibles - Red, White and Blue

Vintage collectibles are another excellent way to bring history into your patriotic decor. Look for items in your country's colors such as old flags, books, bottles and glass collectibles that could relate to your country's heritage. These items not only add an interesting aesthetic to your space but also serve as conversation starters, allowing you to share stories and insights into your nation's past. Arrange them creatively on your mantle or incorporate them into table vignettes to add depth and character to your decor.

Antique Furniture and Textiles - Doilies are a must in my decor

To create a truly immersive vintage patriotic space, consider incorporating antique furniture and textiles into your decor. Look for pieces that reflect the time period you wish to capture, such as vintage armchairs, desks, or chests with intricate details and craftsmanship. Vintage textiles like quilts, tapestries, or tablecloths featuring patriotic motifs or colors can add warmth and texture to your space while enhancing the overall nostalgic ambiance.

Repurposing Vintage Items - My favorite thing to do!

Give new life to vintage items by repurposing them in creative ways within your patriotic decor. For example, transform vintage metal buckets or crates into unique planters for your patriotic-themed flowers or herbs. Use vintage glass bottles as candle holders or vases for fresh blooms. Turn old wooden shutters or doors into unique displays for hanging flags or artwork. The possibilities are endless, and repurposing vintage items adds a touch of sustainability and uniqueness to your decor.

Incorporating vintage items into your patriotic decor is a remarkable way to connect with the rich history of your country while infusing your space with character and charm. Antique flags, vintage posters, collectibles, furniture, and repurposed items all contribute to creating a captivating ambiance that tells the story of your nation. By blending the past with the present, you create a patriotic decor that is not only visually stunning but also carries a sense of timelessness and authenticity. So, embrace the allure of vintage treasures, unleash your creativity, and let your patriotic decor become a tribute to your country's heritage and an invitation to cherish the journey that brought us here today.

Summer Patriotic Wreath

Hey there, how are you doing?

Have I mentioned lately how much I love the red, white and blue seasons?  I love it so much that I decorate for Memorial day and leave it up all the way through fourth of July celebrations.

I recently shared this photo over on my Instagram account and lots of people seemed to love the wreath, so I thought I'd share how I made it.

I found my straw wreath form at the thrift store for $2.50 and my bandanas at Walmart for $1 each.  I ended up using 2 reds, 2 whites and 1 blue.  The amount of bandanas will vary on how tight you place the pieces on the wreath form.

Mark your bandana at 2 inch sections.  I used a white pen so I could see the marks, but a sharpie would work too.  I made marks on both edges, the edge closes to me and then on the opposite side so I would know where to cut to.

After you have all your long strips cut, stack them one on top the other and then cut into 2 inch squares like you see here.  They do not have to be perfect squares, just close.  I picked out all the ones that were solid red to use at the last if I needed them, just my preference though.  Imma a weirdo!

I used some washi tape to mark my sections and then wrote with a sharpie to guide me as to what color goes in that section.

I didn't notice until I was editing these pictures that you can't even see what I'm using to push the little squares in with! Gosh!

I used a really small phillips head screwdriver.  You can also use a wooden skewer if you want to.  Just try and place the screwdriver in the center of the little square holding the ends with your fingers.  It takes some getting used to, but you'll get the hang of it!

I pushed in each square pretty close to one another so it would look full.

NOTE:  I didn't fill the back of the wreath, but I did add squares down into the center edge and tried to make a straight line along the outside edge.

I just worked one section at a time, filling in all of one color and then going on to the next.

All ready for the blue section now.  I was just loving how this was looking at this point!

Stars are optional, but I chose to add some.  I used my Cricut machine and my George cartridge for may stars, but you could always draw some and cut them out too.  I used heavy white card stock for my stars.  I used the following sizes of stars: 1", 1 1/4" and 1 1/2".  I glued them on with hot glue.

As an after thought I added a hanger.  I just used the solid white strip from one of the bandanas.  I folded it in half with free edges to the back/inside and hot glued it to the wreath form.

I bring out the wreath every year and use it in my decor for the red, white and blue seasons.  Have you ever made a rag wreath before?  It sure is time consuming, but the end result is so worth it!

Patriotic Decor for 2023

Hey there! Didja miss me?  Yall, to be honest, I have not felt inspired to create anything fun lately.  I decided that since I love the red, white and blue season so much, I was going to make myself enjoy it. Guess what?  I am!

Wanna see my red, white and blue decor for this year?  Let's go!

We'll start outside on my patio.  Grab a cuppa and enjoy my excitement for the patriotic season!  It's my second favorite. Can you guess what my very favorite season is?

I got this vintage croquet set at a local antique shop. The Mineral Wells Marketplace.  Yes ma'am, I found this beauty right here in my home town!  She's perfect for my cutie patio.  If you visit, tell them DeeDee sent you!

These patriotic banners, dontcha just love them? I found some like mine for an excellent price right here.

Dolly is enjoying our warmer weather and my patriotic decor too.

You've seen this spot lots lately on my blog, but not all dolled up for the RWB season!  I'm lovin' it!

Of course my bedroom has to be all done up in RWB too!  Oh speaking of cute bedrooms, be sure to use my code TEXASBLUE and go shopping at Lush Decor Home to make your bedroom look cute too!

Uncle Sam, can you spot him?  He came right out of the local newspaper.  My sweet Mama saved him for me and I framed him in a beautiful gold frame.

The entire RWB theme for bedding is totally approved by Mister Zel.  Isn't he handsome?

In the living room I'm enjoying book stacks on the mantel with touches of RWB thrown in.

My favorite thing to do is make little groupings of a red, white and blue item, here, there and everywhere.

If you've been following me for any length of time, you'll remember my mailbox wall.  I love decorating it for all the seasons.

I made these little blocks last year.  See how to make them here.

I love old school supplies for my summertime decorating too. I think they go nicely with my RWB decor.

I found these little stars at a garage sale several years ago and I love bringing them out each year.

Miss Bunny is ready to celebrate too.  My granddaughters love her.

Of course Mister has to pose for another patriotic photo.  He's a honey bun!

I ALWAYS decorate Ophelia for every occasion.  I just gathered up lots of my red kitchen goodies and used them here. Oh, and I added a tiny silk flag.  Gotta have flags!

These are my two favorite tins.  Of course they are RWB.  Normally I use them separately, but this year I got the idea to stack them. I just used silver trays for stacking because unfortunately, my marshmallow tin does not have a lid.

Also, even though I've had these tins for several years, I just noticed this year that the cracker jack tin advertised the marshmallows! What?  So cool!

Tah Dah! Perfect patriotic table centerpiece.

My favorite Pioneer Woman dishes to date! They're lovely and they are red, white and blue!  The napkins are from her line too.

I really want some vintage red or cobalt blue glasses to go with these dishes, but I still haven't found any I can afford yet. I'll keep looking though.

My Tips and Tricks for Perfect Social Media Photos

Hey there! How's it going?  I am getting excited for the Fourth of July that is just around the corner now! Woohoo!

Speaking of red, white and blue, let me show you a tip to make your photos for any social media look better than ever!  Improvise, that's the key word.  Fake it till you make it, right?

You're probably thinking right now, "what in the world is she yammering on about?"  Well, this vintage Campfire Marshmallow tin is one of my favorite treasures.  I looked and looked and looked some more before I found one I could afford.  This one was still really expensive if you compare it to what I am normally willing to pay for my junk, but I had to have it!  Anywhoobs, I photograph it for practically every season and occasion that I can and it always gets lots of attention.

Sooooooo, let me show you how I "filled" my vintage tin with marshmallows.  It's a pretty large tin at about 10" in diameter and about 6" deep.  It would take LOTS of bags of marshmallows to actually fill it up.

I went to the kitchen and found a bowl that would sit down inside the tin, but it was too short, so I raised it up with another bowl, as you see here.

See, the bowl I chose doesn't actually fill up the tin either, so I had to see what else I could come up with.

Old marshmallows from last year, placed inside the filler bowl and some crumpled walmart bags around the edges would do.  The bags took up all the extra space.  See my two bags of fresh marshmallows?  I may or may not have eaten 3 or 4 while creating my photo shoot.  Ok, maybe it was 10.....no it wasn't.  Stop judging me, marshmallows are GOOD!

Next I just placed the marshmallows around the top until it looked full.  It's a whole new meaning to Instagram vs reality.  No one will know that my tin wasn't full of marshmallows, right?  Oh dang it, I just told all of YOU! LOL!

See!  It's a vintage marshmallow tin FULL of marshmallows!  Delicious!  Visit my Instagram page HERE and be sure to check out my Reels section to see this idea in action!

Who's ready for the 4th of July? Me! I am!
