Semi Homemade Shamrock Cakes

Hey there!

How are you doing?  Me too!

So I actually shared this on my IG last year, but I never shared it here, so here we go!

Cake!  I love cake and its especially fun when its in a cute festive shape.

Since St Patrick's Day is coming up, how about Shamrock Cakes yall?  I'm not Irish, but its fun to celebrate right along with the festivities of all the fun and GREEN goodies!

As I stated in the title, this is semi homemade.  You will need the following:

1 Vanilla Cake mix

1 Cream Cheese Frosting

Green gel food coloring

Shamrock Cookie Cutter

Mix cake as directed on the box.  Add a small amount of the green food coloring and mix. Now bake and let cool.

NOTE:  I made two 9x9 cakes so they would be thin enough for me to use my cookie cutter easily.

This is the Gel Food Coloring I use, its very easy to use by the way. Less messy than the drops.

Open the frosting and mix the green food coloring in the container of frosting.

Cut out shamrock shapes and decorate with the green frosting.  GO HERE to see my heart shaped cakes and how I added my frosting the easy way.  You'll want to pin those too for next year!

Share with family and friends and watch their faces light up with joy!

Who wouldn't want to get this sweet little gift!  I hope they are a hit at your house too.

Vintage Inspired St. Patrick's Day Tiered Tray Decor

Hey yall!

How's it going in your part of the world?  We've been getting some warmer temps lately and yesterday I actually mowed my grass for the first time of this season! Woohoo!  Spring is just around the corner and I'm sooooo ready!

Do you need a little St. Patty's Day inspiration?  I don't actually decorate for St. Patrick's Day, but I love getting out all of my green treasures and spreading them all over the house!

How do you like my St Patrick's Day tray?  I only have a few shamrocks so I decided to add them all to my tiered tray.  It took me just a minute or two to put it together and now I can enjoy my tiny treasures in my kitchen while I'm doing dishes!

I mostly keep my treasures stored by color, because imma weirdo, but also because it makes it much easier to grab what I need when I'm decorating for certain holidays or themes.

I recently collected a bunch of new green glass.  It just kept popping up everywhere I went.  It was all great prices, so I couldn't resist it.  That little jar there was just $1.  I've had that toothpick holder for along time now.  It was so dirty when I found it, but they only charged me .50 cents because of the dirt! Haha!

It's hard to tell, but those little pieces of fabric are in the shape of a shamrock.  I made it several years ago.  See how I did it HERE.

Another fun find that I was over the moon about were these little jadeite shakers.  Aren't they adorable?  Also that pair of coffee mugs too!  I love green stuff almost as much as I love red stuff!  I just LOVE color!

So that's about it for my green tray.  Hopefully you got some inspiration from what I did and I hope it made you smile too!

I hope yall have an amazing day!

St. Patrick's Day Rice Krispie Treats

Happy St Patrick's day! Are you of Irish descent, do you celebrate? We are not, but it's fun to make a few green treats and put out a few green decorations here and there!

Life Update: I finally got a job and I start on Wednesday! Woohoo! I will be the receptionist for a busy medical office. It's been several years since I worked in the medical field, but I'm sure it will all come right back to me when I get in to it.  I'm excited and nervous all at once, but it'll all be ok and I'll do fine! :)
Let's get on to our sweet treat here.  Of course we all know about Rice Krispie Treats, but these are special and tinted green for St. Patrick's Day and best of all, they have Lucky Charms marshmallows in them for extra luck!

St. Patricks Day Rice Krispie Treats

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of soft marshmallows
  • 1/4 Butter
  • 5 cups of Rice Krispie cereal
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring, 3-4 drops (optional, but it's St. Patrick's Day, so.........)
  • 3/4 - 1 cup of Lucky Charm’s marshmallows – I hand picked them out of the Lucky Charms cereal box and filled my 3/4 cup to mounded, just to make sure there were plenty! Heehee!
Instructions: Melt the butter over low heat until it's completely melted. Gradually add marshmallows and stir often to avoid burning them. When marshmallow/butter mixture is completely melted, add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and the green food coloring and mix well. Remove from heat and stir in your Rice Krispie cereal. Once mixture is mostly combined, stir in the Lucky Charm’s marshmallows.  Use a 9 x 12 pan and spray lightly with oil or butter.  Pour the warm mixture into the greased pan and with a wooden spoon, press down to gently pack the treat into place.  Let cool completely and then cut into squares.  Store in an air tight container and they will stay softer longer! A Ziplock bag or Tupperware works great!
The only thing not shown here is the butter.  It was already melting int he pan when I thought it would be a "cool blogger thing" to snap a picture of all the ingredients.

While the treats were still warm, I added a few more Lucky Charms marshmallows on top for decoration.  Your kiddos or grands will get a big kick out these, so go make some, they are so easy!

Crafty St. Patrick's Day Ideas

Do you decorate for St. Patrick's Day?  I do.  No, neither of us are Irish, but its fun and it gives me a reason to change up my decor.  Ha,ha!

I have gathered a few of my favorite St. Patrick's Day crafts for you to try if you want to decorate too.  It's not too late, you still have a couple of weeks to enjoy them, or you can pin for next year.
These are all fairly easy to make because I try not to do hard things, it just seems to take the fun out of it if its too hard. Who's with me?
For this one you'll need a bunch of green scrapbook papers, some wooden skewers, a bit of burlap and a pot to "plant" your shamrocks in.  See the full tutorial right here.
For this little banner, you'll need some old book pages, kraft card stock, some green glitter paper and a length of twineSee the full tutorial right here.
If you are the type to send out cards or just hand deliver them to your loved ones, this sweet and simple card could be for you.  See this card and lots more of my St. Patrick's Day cards right here.
This one is a little harder and takes more time to assemble, but isn't it cute?  You will need a few different green yarns and a white yarn along with a wreath form, some gold coins and a little Irish sign.  See the full tutorial right here.
These are so much fun and look adorable anywhere you style them.  You'll need lots of green scrap fabric and some wire clothes hangersSee the full tutorial right here.
Which one do you want to try?  I'm pretty sure my favorite one to make was the rag shamrocks, so cute!

Lucky Shamrock Banner

Do you decorate for St. Patrick's Day? Me too, but to be honest, I only do when Easter falls later on. This year it turned out that I could keep the green stuff up a bit longer and enjoy it.
This little banner was so easy to put together.  I used my Cricut to cut everything out, but you could also just find the shapes online and cut it out by hand as well.
Here's what I used:
Cricut Expressions Machine

Paper Doll Dress Up - I cut the Shamrock at 3" five (5) times using Kraft card stock.

Cuttin' Up - I cut the letters out on the cartoon shadow @ 1 1/2" - L-U-C-K-Y using some green glitter paper.

Tags Bags Boxes & More - I cut using the blackout feature @ 7" five (5) times using old book pages.
First I glued all the pieces together and then folded my tag over towards the back so I had a space to run the cord through for hanging.  I used a piece of jute twine.  I made a loop on each end for hanging.
I hung mine on my chalk board in the kitchen.  So cute!  If you're interested, I have these for sale in my Etsy shop HERE.  I offer FREE shipping!

An Easy Fun Rag Shamrock Decoration

I'm cutting it really close, but I have one more St. Patrick's Day craft to show you.  While perusing Pinterest, I've seen several different crafts using a wire hanger formed into some fun shape and I wanted to try my hand at it too!  My honey wears a uniform every day so we have loads of wire hangers, large shirt hangers and smaller pants hangers.
I had lots of scrap fabric from way back when I worked at a Vet's office and made the bandanas for all the groomed babies.  If you don't have lots of fabric scraps, I found a cute stack right here for you.  Anywho...lots of fabric and lots of hangers equals a fun rag shamrock.
My honey's strong hands bent and shaped the hangers into the shamrock shape.  He just looked at one of the shamrocks on a piece of the fabric and tah dah, its a shamrock! My honey is the best!
To be honest with you, I didn't even try to make the shape.  I left it all to him and his handiness!  I'm pretty sure he just did it because he was tired of me asking him if he could shape this hanger like a shamrock! LOL!
You will need your shamrock shaped hangers, several different green fabrics and some scissors to make your own rag shamrock.
I took my fabric and snipped several sections along one edge and then ripped them off to make my rag strips.  This big ole pile wasn't even enough to finish both shamrocks, so make LOTS!
Step 1: Fold your rag strip in half with the ends in one hand and the loop in the other.  Place it under your wire like so.
Step 2: Push the ends through the loop.  You basically just switch ends in your hands.
Step 3: While holding your wire, pull the ends until the rag strip is tight on the wire, then push it over and keep going.
Lastly I wrapped the "stem" with a piece of fabric just so it matched the rest of it.  This is the smallest one made with the pants hanger.  I think it turned out the best.  It's going in our camper for a little cute St. Patty's Day decor.
Here's the larger of the two.  I had to trim it a little with my scissors to give it a better shape.  I made the strips way too long on this one.  It's staying in our room to add a little green fun in there.
This is another fun craft that you can just sit and watch TV while you put it together.  Easy and cheap, you cant beat that!  We are off camping this weekend so stay tuned for more camper FUN!  Happy St. Patrick's Day a day early! Don't forget to wear green tomorrow!

St. Patrick's Day Yarn Wreath

To my knowledge, neither of us are directly Irish, but its fun to decorate for St. Patrick's Day.  I love to decorate for every occasion.....so, I really wanted to make one of these yarn ball wreaths when I saw this one.  So pretty Heather!
This is how mine turned out.  It was fun wrapping the yarn balls.  I just sat and watched TV while I wrapped away.  It is however, a bit challenging with 3 cats "helping" me! Ha!
I didn't use styrofoam balls for my bases, I just wrapped regular old fashioned yarn balls.  LOTS of them in all sizes.  I used 3 shades of green and white yarn to make my yarn balls.  I used almost the entire large skein of yarn for each color.
This is an 18" heavy cardboard wreath form that I used for my pinwheel wreath HERE.  It didn't hold up to the Texas sun and faded really bad so I took it apart and used the form again.  Here I started laying down some of my larger yarn balls to get an idea of where they needed to go.
I used my hot glue gun to attach the balls to the wreath form.  I glued them really close together so hopefully you couldn't see the wreath form under them.
Keep placing and gluing until you like the way the wreath looks.  When I got to the end of my supply of yarn balls, I did have to make a few more of certain sizes and color to fill in blank spots.
Next, I added 7 golden (plastic) coins for good luck.  I found these at Hobby Lobby.  Just attach them with hot glue.  I glued 3 of them together first, then added them to the wreath.
The little "Irish" sign is from Hobby Lobby too, but I've had that for a few years so I'm not sure if you can still find them or not.
These are easy and fun to make, if you haven't tried one, you should! Especially if you have lots of yarn just hanging around!  Depending on the colors of yarn you have, you could make one for any occasion.
