A Thrifted Treasure: The Brass Butterfly Trivet That Flew Into My Heart

Some people collect stamps. Others collect fine china. Me? I collect charming little nothings that make my house feel like a hug, and this brass butterfly trivet is exactly that kind of treasure.

 I spotted it sitting quietly on a dusty thrift store shelf, looking like it had just fluttered in from someone’s 1970s kitchen and was waiting for a second chance. And y’all know I can’t resist a piece with a little patina and a whole lot of personality. Into my cart it went.....no questions asked.

A Trivet with a Past (and Probably a Story or Two)

This sweet brass butterfly isn’t just practical; it’s personality with wings. I imagine it once lived under hot casserole dishes at family dinners or maybe sat on a countertop next to a rotary phone and a recipe box full of Jell-O salads. It has that worn-in warmth that only a well-loved item can carry.

Where It Lives Now

These days, this little brass butterfly isn’t just babysitting hot dishes, it’s living its best life in my gallery wall of vintage gold frames and mirrors. And let me tell you, it fits right in like it was always meant to be there.

Mounted up with the rest of my collected treasures, it brings the perfect touch of whimsy to the mix. It’s unexpected, a little quirky, and adds just enough texture and charm to keep things interesting. Amid the shimmer of aged mirrors and gilded frames, that butterfly quietly steals the show, proving that not everything on a gallery wall has to be square or framed to be fabulous.

It's one of those pieces that makes people lean in and say, “Wait... is that a trivet?” And I just smile and say, “It sure is, and isn’t it darling?”

Why I Love It

It’s brass. Its butterfly shaped. It was cheap ($3). That’s the trifecta right there.

But more than anything, it reminds me that the best finds aren’t always the biggest or fanciest. Sometimes it’s the little pieces, forgotten, mismatched, or tucked away in a bin, that bring the most charm into your home.

So, here’s to the thrift store treasures that flutter into your life when you least expect it, and to making them part of the story your home tells.

Vintage Hoosier and Christmas Baking

Hello there!  As you're reading this, I'm probably moving the remainder of my things into my new home.  I had to wait for muscles to help me with the big stuff.  Hello, little 5' 3" lady over here! Lol!

Hopefully, I'll be showing you pictures of my new home soon, but for now, let's get to my favorite vintage treasure in the world. Ophelia, my Hoosier cabinet.  Even though she's orange and green, she dolls up nicely for Christmas.

So many yummy vintage goodies!  I'm attracted to the kitchen gadgets, so I have lots.

Vintage Pyrex that I actually got as a wedding gift a 100 years ago! They are in pristine shape too!

Cookie cutters are something I've been collecting for LOTS of years.  I started out collecting the plastic Wilton cutters, but now I've switched to collecting the old metal ones. My favorite!  My Mamaw had cookie cutters like these and I remember using them as a kid.

In this view, you can see another one of my special treasures.  My ceramic Christmas tree that my step Mom and Daddy made for me lots of years ago.  It comes out every year too!

I had to take the ceramic tree down off of Ophelia as a daily display, because cats....they are unpredictable and you never know when they might jump up to investigate something.  Also, Hazel, my orange kitty, she loves to steal the little lights off of my ceramic Christmas tree and now I am about 5 short.  Over the years, I could never find all of them when she would take them off.
