Happy Easter Banner

Recently we rearranged the living room and I decided to let the old vintage window frame live over the couch for now.  I've been decorating it with a wreath for each holiday.  Since its time for Easter right now, I got out the Easter egg wreath I made a few years ago.  After I hung it, it seemed like it needed something else, so I thought a cute Easter banner would go with my colorful Easter Egg Wreath.  I got out the Cricut Expressions and got to it!

I love the rustic look, so I opted for the Kraft paper and twine combination.  At first I was just going to use little flag type pieces for each letter and then I got the bright idea to use egg shapes.

You will need the following items to recreate my banner:

Printed paper (I used is a 6 x 6 paper stack from Lawn Fawn called Let's Polka, Mon Amie)
Kraft Card Stock
Cats Eye Chalk Ink (chestnut brown)
Cricut machine
Doodlecharms cartridge
Mickey Font cartridge
Jute twine
Burlap ribbon
Mini clothespins
Glue for paper crafting

For the egg shapes:
I used my Doodlcharms cartridge.  The Kraft piece was set to cut @ 14".  Next the colored egg pieces.  I wanted the banner to be sturdy so I will be able to use it year after year, so I cut an extra egg from white card stock so it would be stiffer when all assembled.  The white piece and the colored piece were cut at 13".
For the letters:
I used my Mickey Font cartridge.  I wanted the letters to pop off the colored eggs, so I decided to use a white shadow.  For the white piece, use the shadow button and cut each letter @ 3".  For the colored letters, turn off the shadow key and cut @ 3".

After you have all your pieces cut out, start assembling them with glue.  Next measure the area you want to string your banner to and from and cut a piece of jute twine.  Tie a loop in both ends for hanging.  Add each egg with a mini clothespin.  Adjust them to your liking.  Now finally, take the burlap ribbon and cut (7) 6" pieces.  Tie one piece in between each egg and one on each end using a loose knot.

I made this little banner first.  After hanging it, I still thought it needed something else.....I can't leave anything alone! lol!

Before we move on I just wanted to show you a close up of the burlap ribbon ties in between the eggs and also the individual eggs as well.  Each egg and letter got a good distressing with some cats eye chalk ink.  I love the tiny printed papers.  So cute!

So, since I thought it needed something else, I made the "happy" banner to go with it.  It's just a smaller version of the first one.  The eggs are cut using 7" all around.  The kraft paper is cut using the shadow key and the color paper is with the shadow key off.  I only tied the little burlap ribbon knots on either end since it was so little.

Easter Egg Wreath

Last summer while we were out yard sale-ing  I came across a real bargain!  A box full of plastic Easter eggs with grass! All for .25 cents! So what I'm about to show you cost me a total of $2.25 because I also found a straw wreath at Goodwill for $2!

This little project was so simple and fun to put together, I was wishing I had another wreath and more eggs!

I saw this sign wrote on the box and got all excited and here it was summer time and we were sweating in the heat with no sign of Easter in sight!  Oh well, that's what crafters do!

Easter Egg Wreath

For this project you will need:

• 12" straw wreath
• Lots of plastic Easter eggs (I used about 80)
• Two bags of paper basket filler (I used the natural brown color because it was in the box)
• Glue gun with glue sticks
• flat head screwdriver

If you want your wreath sectioned out into colors then sort your eggs and start gluing!  I used the low heat setting on my glue gun so the glue would cool faster and I wouldn't have to hold each egg in place for so long.  Since my eggs were of the cheap version, some didn't want to stay closed so I just added a tiny amount of hot glue to keep them closed.

After you get all the eggs glued to your wreath, use the flat head screwdriver to push the shredded paper into the open spaces between the eggs. Continue until all the open spaces are filled.  I didn't use any glue to hold the paper, it just stays put for the most part.

This is what your wreath should look like when you're finished.  You could also mix the colors while gluing the eggs onto the wreath and use the traditional green color of shredded paper for a very different look.  Will you be looking for plastic Easter Eggs next time you go yard sale-ing or thrifting?

Easter Bunny Banner

I love Spring and I love Easter.  I also love to add to my seasonal decor when I can, so I made this bunny banner to adorn my chalkboard.

This time I'm kickin' it old school and using my Cricut Expressions machine and the Cricut Sampler cartridge.  If you don't have these two items, any bunny pattern will do.  There are several bunny patterns on Pinterest.  All the supplies needed, I had on hand.  Just use what you have.

To recreate my bunny banner, you will need:
White card stock
Blue, Peach, Pink, Green and Purple card stock
One cotton ball
Glue
Hole punch
Scissors
White bias tape or ribbon
6" strands of tiny ribbon in colors matching your card stock
White yarn
Fork

First, using your die cutting machine, cut one bunny with shadow at 4", then two more at 3 1/2", then two more at 3".  I cut all of my shadows in white first, then the colored bunnies last, but that's just me!  Glue the two pieces together and then add a little bit of the cotton ball for the tail.  Lastly, punch a hole in one ear for hanging.

Now for stringing them into a banner.  I used some white bias tape and measured out a piece about a yard long.  Next cut five smaller pieces to tie the bunnies on to the long piece like you see above.  Find the center of your strand and tie on your 4" bunny there.  Space the others starting with the 3 1/2" bunnies and then lastly the 3" bunnies according to how you want them to look.

Now for the tassels.  I have TONS of ribbon, so I just grabbed some colors matching my bunnies and cut several for each tassel at 6" lengths.  Gather them all together and tie one end with another piece of ribbon to hold it all together.

Ok, this was fun!  Baby fork pom-poms.  So cute and easy!  HERE is where I learned to make these, but basically all you do is wrap your yarn around the middle of the fork about 35 times and then cut another length of yarn and feed it up through the middle space like you see above and then bring the other end up through the front middle and tie one time pretty tight.  Slide the yarn off the fork and tighten it really tight and then tie it one more time to hold it.  Using sharp scissors, cut all the loops, fluff and trim into a ball shape.  Go watch the video , its really easy.  I'm making it sound way harder than it really is.

Now tie your tassels and pom-poms on in the middle of each bunny.  Space them to your liking, hang and enjoy!  My ribbon was long enough I could tie it around my chalkboard and tie into a bow.  I think it turned out so sweet!

This would also be adorable hanging on your mantel or a mirror.  The possibilities are endless, get creative!

From this angle the bunnies almost all look the same size, but remember the center one is 4" and then they go out smaller to the ends.

Now we have little hopping bunnies hanging in the kitchen to make us smile when we walk through.

Pink Fluff - An Easy Dessert

Happy Easter!

Need a quick easy dessert for Easter or any other Spring or Summer get together?  This one has just a few ingredients and it is so easy and fast to put together!

Isn't it pretty and so yummy looking? Seriously, who doesn't love to eat pink stuff?  Speaking of pink stuff. that's what we call it in our family.

Pink Fluff

1 - 4 cup serving of cheesecake instant Jello (I used sugar/fat free to cut calories)
1 - 20 oz can of cherry pie filling
1 - 15 oz can of crushed pineapple (do not drain)
1 - regular tub of Cool Whip
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Pour undrained pineapple into a mixing bowl then add the Jello.  Mix well to incorporate both.

No add the cherry pie filling and mix well.  Oh its getting good now!

Add chopped pecans if you so wish to use them.   Stir to blend into your mixture.  Last, add your Cool Whip.  I guess I got so excited about this dish I forgot to snap a picture of that step!

Serve immediately or chill in the fridge to mingle the flavors a bit.  Its good either way!

Easter Egg Wreath Revisited

Last year I made one of these wreaths for myself. This year I made one for my sweet Mama!  Go HERE to see mine from last year.  It's a bigger wreath form, color blocked and darker shaded eggs.  Mama's is a 14" wreath form, the colors are mingled and I used the lighter colored eggs this time.

Of course I love how mine turned out, but I really like this one too!  Such a fun, fast and easy craft to put together.

I got all my supplies at Walmart back during Valentines.  Don't you hate when they rush one holiday through another one?  Really Walmart? Really? Any who....you will need the following items to recreate this wreath:

1) 14" wreath form (I used straw on this one)
1) package of plastic Easter eggs (42 count)
1) package of basket filler (preferably the paper type and not the plastic type)
Hot glue gun (use the low setting)
Flat head screwdriver (for pushing the filler into the open spaces)

I just picked a color (blue) and used one of each color egg until I got to the blue one again and kept repeating around the wreath form.  Glue, hold, cool and repeat.

When you are finished gluing the eggs to the wreath form, fill in the open spaces with the basket filler.  Add a little glue if necessary, sometimes its a tight enough squeeze you don't need glue.
