The Easiest Way to Hang a Shelf

Hey there! Are you staying cool?  Yall, its so hot here in Texas.  If we could just drop down into the 90s it would help so much. Come on Mother Nature, lay off the 100 degree days!

Anyhoobs, its cool inside the house so lets hang a shelf or two!  I was scrolling through Pinterest when I saw the easiest way to hang pictures or shelves and I was like, hey, I need to hang some shelves!  Let's go!

I moved into my new home back last December, but there is still so much to do.  Recently, I hung shelves.  These are in my dining room and oh boy did it make it feel so much more cozy in here!  Also, more space for all my fun junk!  Click here to enjoy the reel I made hanging these shelves on Instagram.

You will need the following items to hang a shelf in mere minutes:

Drill / Screwdriver

Painter's Tape

Wall Anchors with drill bit

Marker

Level

Hammer

This is my quilt rack and I'm going to demonstrate my easy process with it because I was on a roll when I hung the shelves in the dining room and didn't repeat the steps on those shelves.

Step one:  Flip your shelf over to its backside where the hangers are.

Step two:  Place a length of painter's tape from one hanger to the other like so.

Step three: Smooth painter's tape over the hole of  your hanger and color in the shape with you marker.

Step four:  Place marked painter's tape on the wall where you want your shelf to hang.

Step five: Use a level to make sure your tape is straight.

Step six: Drill holes where you marked on the painter's tape.  This drill bit came with my dry wall anchor kit, so its the perfect size for the perfect holes.

Step seven: Tap in the wall anchor using a hammer, then add the screw to the anchor.

Step eight:  Hang the shelf and fill up with old vintage goodies!

Zel likes the quilt rack over the sofa and so do I!  It's amazing how hanging things on the walls makes it feel more homey and cozy.

Of course this was decorated for the fourth of July but I've already changed this space up with a Summertime scene.  I scream, you scream.....can you guess what I've got staged in here now?

I hope this pictorial helped make your shelf hanging duties much easier!

If you loved any of these ideas and want to save them for later, be sure to pin it to your favorite Pinterest board.  I have a Pinterest board set up for all kinds of Farmhouse decorations and its called Farmhouse Decor IdeasI'm pinning something new on Pinterest every day. Won't you join me?

  2. Hi DeeDee! Welcome to the Share Your Style/French Ethereal family!! I know you might have share a time before but I gave you a shout-out this week as someone new. :) I know what you mean about the Texas heat... Can I go back to Paris, France... please??! It was 58-59 degrees last Wednesday when we had to fly home... Chilly, but I WAS NOT COMPLAINING! ;D

Anyway, all kidding aside, I love your trick with the backwards tape to get your markings to put up all the hanging hardware. I always share pinning to my boards (multiple) so your ideas are out there now! :) I learned another hanging trick for plates: use a large piece of paper and lay everything out on the floor as how you'd hang it up, then trace the pieces and mark the plate hanger "hanger" on the paper. Hang the paper up, poke holes and mark through on to the wall, take the paper down and drill/molly bolt, hang your stuff! Works great!

Anyway, hope you are staying cool in your neck of the woods. It's 98 now at 5pm on Saturday here in Denton, TX. :) Hey, it's under a 100, lol! ;)' Can't wait for fall...

Have a great rest of your weekend,
    Hugs,
    Barb :)
