Big Mirror Small Price!

 Happy Sunday from Clover House!
There are my 2 helpers in the picture above.  Mama doesn't get too far without them knowing about it.  They were helping me make the photos "cuter".

I got this big 34 x 22 mirror at an auction for $12.  It was made in the UK and is very heavy.  It's called the Small Dahlia.  If this is the small one then I'm sure I wouldn't be able to lift the large one.  My favorite part is the detailed frame and the beveled mirror.  I've looked online to see what these mirrors cost new and best I can tell this one runs a little over $300 new.  I think I got a bargain for sure!
As you can see here is was a lovely gold tone.  Me, I'm not so much on gold for our home, so I used some postal packing paper and taped off the mirror and was ready for a new look.
I used my Valspar white primer to give it a good base to work on.  Since there are so many little cracks and crevices it took me about 3 coats to get a good cover.
This is coat 2 of the primer and I could still see dark parts shining through...so one more coat I gave it.  After I let the primer dry I applied 2 coats of Valspar Glossy White paint and let it dry outside for about 30 minutes in the hot sun, then brought it inside the house to dry the rest of the way.
I love all those details even more when they are all white and purty!  I think its just BEAUTIFUL!
Normally the mirror lives on the mantel in the living room as you can see HERE.....but as you see below, we are in the process of making the living room.....more livable!
My youngest son helped me take all the paneling down and get it hauled outside.  Whew, what a chore that was!
Ooopsie, there's one of my helpers again! Heehee!  The glue the builders used to apply the paneling {along with about a gazillion nails} left behind lots and lots of rips and tears, so we are getting that all patched up and a coat of primer on, then we will start applying the wall texture.  I can't wait to see what it will look like.  Just having all that paneling down off the walls makes it look bigger and brighter in there!

It doesn't have to be done all at once.  It is a slow process in the works! C-ya next time!

  1. That was sure a good price for that huge mirror! I like that you painted it white.

I bet it will look great in the living room after the renovation.

I'll be back to see your progress.

  3. This is so bizarre! I found this exact mirror at a thrift store today, and I was searching for it's value. You got a bit better of a deal ( I paid $14!) but I LOVE this frame!!! We are super lucky!
