Thrifty Lamp Makeover

With 3 sweet kitties in the house sometimes things like lamps don't stay in the upright position!  One of our bedroom lamps bit the dust and couldn't be repaired, so I went in search of new ones!
Since I showed you my honey's side of the bed last time I decided to show you mine this time.  My bed side table is an old phone chair.  Do you love it? I do!  Lots of room for all my girlie stuff!
Here's my thrifty find.  I got 2 wooden lamps for $5!  Now that's a bargain people!  They were pretty filthy so I cleaned them up really good first, then got to priming and painting.
First of all, you need to tape off the parts you don't want painted, like the cord and the bulb fittings.  I used frog tape this time.
First I primed them with Rust-oleum's white primer.  Let that dry really well. I waited for about 30 minutes before I painted.  Sorry I forgot to snap a picture of the primer can, but its very common and easy to find anywhere.  Click the link if you want to see what it looks like.
For the color I used Rust-oleum's Aqua Satin spray paint.  I found it at Walmart for under $4.  I gave each lamp 2 thin coats of paint making sure they were really dry before the next coat.
This is such a pretty color and I don't think its too girly.  I try not to make our bedroom over the top girlie since my honey and I both hang out in there.
I hung one of my necklaces on it just because it matched and gave my side a bit more glam.  Just a little sumthin' sumthin'!  Now that I think about it, the cats may like the dangle of it all as well. Hmmmm?
I used the same lamp shades from the other lamps since they were still in perfectly good shape.  I thought about adding some type of design to the lamp, but later, we'll just enjoy the simplicity for now.
I love how our "new" lamps look.  Now hopefully we wont have any cat chase scenes through the bedroom anytime soon! LOL!
I'm thinking about a new cover for our bed, maybe to match the new lamps!  That's another mission now isn't it!  I think I can hear Kohl's calling my name! Ha!

It doesn't have to be done all at once.  It is a slow process in the works! C-ya next time!

  3. Your lamp is lovely! I just painted one a coral red. It is fun to find a "treasure" and repurpose it.
