Painted Wooden Spoon Set

Happy Mother's Day!
Sometimes I see a project on Pinterest that really catches my eye and I want to make it. This is one of those projects.  I made this set for my sweet Mama for Mother's Day.  She loves kitchen gadgets and she loves purple.
I actually have a set of these bamboo utensils that I use every day and I love them.  I may be painting mine soon!
I found this set of bamboo utensils at Walmart for under $5.  The paint is also from Walmart and it was .50 per bottle.  You'll also need painters tape and a paint brush which I already had on hand.
The paint colors I used are Lilac Mist, Purple Iris and Purple Pansy.
I always use a disposable plate when I paint with acrylic paints.  Its easy clean up, just throw the plate in the trash!
Tape off your first section.  I tapped off each utensil being sure to stay away from the business end of each one so there wouldn't be any worries of paint ever getting in food.
I worked in thin coats of paint to insure coverage.  I let each coat dry thoroughly under the ceiling fan before I went on to the next coat.  I used two coats of each color.
After your first color of two coats has dried, remove the tapes.
Add the next coat in the same steps as above.
When moving on to my second and third colors, I would place the tape just below the paint line to insure a good coverage of each color.
Let your last coat of paint dry and then remove all the tapes and seal.  I used Valspar Clear Protector from Lowes.  Sorry I forgot to snap a picture of it!
These would look cute sitting on your kitchen counter wouldnt they?  Let me know if you've ever tried this "painting of spoons".  Do they use and wash well? Or no?

NOTE: I have never used a painted spoon before so I'm not sure of the outcome of use and washing, but I used a paint sealer at the very end of all the steps to insure a long life of the painted parts.  To be extra safe, you may want to use these as decor only.  I'm just not sure!  Now I'm second guessing this idea! LOL!

It doesn't have to be done all at once.  It is a slow process in the works! C-ya next time!

  4. Congratulations on your feature at the Simply BeBetsy Friday Features. This is such a great idea - especially if you're like me and keep your wooden spoons in a canister on the counter. Might have to steel this idea for my kitchen :)

  5. This is one of the most fun DIY projects I've seen! I'm not very good with a paintbrush, but this is something I just might be able to pull off. I'm glad you disclosed about not knowing for sure whether or not the paint job would hold up with washing. I guess I'll just have to do a test piece to find out! At any rate, these would make a fun decorative addition to the kitchen!

Thanks also for the tip of moving the tape just below the paint line for the 2nd and 3rd colors. I would not have considered that.

Congratulations on being featured this past week on BeBetsy! Have a great week ahead!
