Our Lovely Butter and Sage Dining Room

Happy Saturday!

You all know how life gets in the way sometimes.  Yes, for us there are things more important than blogging so we took a break.  Well, its been a really long time since we've last posted here on the Clover House Blog, but we're back again and ready to share our progress with you.
When we last blogged about the dining room, we had the wainscoting and chair rail installed and were ready for paint. We finally painted! YAY!
This is the mess we started with. Of course there were lots of steps from here to the point where we are today.  LOTS!  That's a huge change huh? Go ahead and scroll back up and compare. LOL!
All the ugly green paper came down and the walls got textured and painted with a coat of primer.
Then we brought in the wainscoting and chair rail and got it all measured, cut and installed.
That's inspector Tootles there on the right keeping an eye on the progress my honey is making.  He's pretty tough on us some times too. Heehee!
These little pieces of chair rail is what gave my honey the biggest headache.  It certainly doesn't help when the walls are not all perfectly standing straight and true.
We then taped off and used drop cloth to protect what we didn't want painted yet. I'm the "taper-off-er" in the house and that I don't mind...but sometimes since I'm vertically challenged I have to get the step ladder out and S*T*R*E*T*C*H.
The yellow paint is called Jekyl Clubhouse yellow (Butter) and the green is Jekyl Crane Cottage green (Sage).  We used Valspar Ultra Paint and Primer from Lowe's. This is awesome paint. Two coats and its perfect.
The chair rail was painted with bright white gloss paint in the same brand. Very nice paint. We really like it.  Just in case you are rookies like we are go ahead and splurge for the really good painter's tape because when I painted the chair rail, the white leaked up on the yellow. I'm thinking because the wall is textured, but also partly because the tape didn't really get a good hold on the wall either.
This is how it looks today. We all love it! My house full of men were questioning the yellow and green combination at first, but after it was all done they all agreed it was a great choice! YAY!

It doesn't have to be done all at once.  It is a slow process in the works! C-ya next time!

  1. Great job! It looks so inviting. How high did you make your wainscoting? Did you remove baseboard prior to installing wainscoting? Also, you mentioned “texturing” walls. What technique did you use?

    1. Hi there! Thank you so much! The wainscotting is store bought at Lowe's. Yes, we did remove the baseboards first because we had planned on tiling the floors too. My FIL textured the walls using a wadded up walmart bag, but I have no idea what the technique would be called. He used a tapping motion when applying the texture. I hope that helped!
